How effective is the Tenso system acoustically?

Our 50mm system uses a Class A acoustic core, the highest absorption classification, making it highly effective at reducing reverberation and echo. Our 25mm system achieves Class B, which is still a strong performance, suitable for many spaces. The right choice depends on your room’s reverberation target — our team can advise at the specification stage.

Do I need to cover every wall to get results?

Not usually. Effective acoustic design is about strategic placement, not full coverage. The goal is to reach the optimal reverberation time for your space — once there, adding more panels won’t improve performance and can make the room feel acoustically “dead.”

Does the printed fabric on Tenso Print affect acoustic performance?

No – acoustic performance is fully retained. With Tenso Print, the print is applied to an acoustic fabric, so sound still passes through to the core beneath. 

What’s the difference between Class A and Class B absorption?

Class A represents the highest level of sound absorption (NRC ≥ 0.90 across key frequencies) and is recommended for spaces with significant noise or reverberation issues such as open-plan offices, restaurants, sports halls.

Class B (NRC ≥ 0.80) is effective for spaces with moderate acoustic requirements, such as meeting rooms or residential spaces.

Should I choose Tenso Ceiling or Tenso Hinge?

It depends on whether ongoing access to ceiling services is required.

Tenso Ceiling is a fixed overhead system — seamless, clean, and ideal where the ceiling won’t need to be opened after installation.

Tenso Hinge uses the same fabric finish but with panels engineered to hinge down for maintenance access — without disrupting the space or the finish. Best for anywhere with HVAC, AV, or M&E that needs regular attention above the ceiling line.

Can Tenso systems be installed around curves, reveals or existing fixtures?

Yes. The track is shaped on site to follow any wall profile or ceiling configuration — including curves, reveals, and complex corners. Services such as sockets, switches, lighting, and AV can all be integrated within the system and cut through the fabric with a clean aperture. There are no standard sizes or shapes — every installation is made to measure.

Can I use my own fabric or specify something not in the fabric guide?

In most cases, yes. The Tenso system is compatible with thousands of fabrics beyond those listed in our guide. The key requirements are acoustic permeability (so sound passes through to the core) and adequate stretch for tensioning. Fire rating requirements will also apply depending on the building type and use. Send us the fabric you have in mind and our team will advise on suitability

Do you offer custom-printed acoustic panels?

Yes. Tenso systems can be printed with logos, branding, graphics, or artwork — turning functional sound absorbers into design features. This is especially popular in offices, schools, and creative spaces where aesthetics matter.

How long does installation take?

It depends on the scale of the project. A small meeting room can be completed in a few hours. A large open-plan office or school hall might take several days. We’ll give you a realistic timeline at the quote stage based on your dimensions, access requirements, and working hour restrictions. We can install out of hours or in phases where disruption needs to be minimised.

Is installation carried out by your own team?

Yes — design, manufacture, and installation are all handled in-house by our own specialist team. This means one point of contact from brief to handover, and consistent quality at every stage. Our installers are experienced with complex profiles, curved walls, services integration, and large-format spaces.

Are Tenso systems environmentally certified?

Tenso operates under ISO 14001 environmental management accreditation, independently certified across design, manufacture, and installation. The acoustic core contains a minimum of 60% recycled polyester content and is recyclable at end of life. Most recommended fabrics carry the EU Ecolabel or equivalent, and many meet LEED criteria. The Tenso Hinge frame is manufactured from PVC recycled from window frame manufacturing off-cuts.

Can Tenso contribute to LEED or BREEAM certifications?

Yes. Tenso systems can contribute to green building certifications across multiple credit categories. Many of our recommended fabrics also meet BREEAM material specification requirements. Our team can advise on which products and fabric selections best support your sustainability targets at specification stage.

Are the panels fire-rated?

Yes. All Tenso panels are tested to meet international fire safety standards. Most configurations achieve EN 13501-1: B s2, d0 or equivalent — suitable for commercial, educational, and healthcare environments. Exact fire performance depends on the core type and fabric selected. Our team will confirm the fire rating for your specific system build-up at specification stage, and can advise on fabric and core combinations to meet project-specific requirements.

Do the panels require maintenance?

Very little. The fabric surface can be lightly vacuumed with a soft brush attachment to remove dust, or gently wiped with a damp cloth for surface marks. Unlike soft furnishings, Tenso panels don’t require regular deep cleaning. The tensioned fabric finish is durable under normal use — it won’t sag, warp, or lose its shape over time.

Can the fabric be replaced if it’s damaged or we want to update the look?

Yes. The fabric can be re-tensioned with a new material without replacing the track or acoustic core — making it a cost-effective option for refreshing a space or updating branding.
